Reimagining Northfield High School

On November 5, 2024, Northfield School District voters approved all three ballot questions:

  • Question 1 passed, 59.49% in favorBuilding massing for Reimagine NHS project.
  • Question 2 passed, 53.65% in favor
  • Question 3 passed, 56.44% in favor

what is included in the project?

  • A 120,000-square-foot multi-story classroom addition.
  • Demolition of the D, H, M and S wings (102,000 square feet.)
  • Renovating the remaining 168,559 square feet.
  • An expanded gymnasium addition large enough for four full-size basketball courts and an indoor walking track.
  • A new HVAC system powered by geothermal technology.

What is happening now?

The community is invited to a groundbreaking ceremony for the Reimagine Northfield High School project on Tuesday, June 9. Here are the details:

Date: Tuesday, June 9 2026
Time: 4:00 p.m.
Location: The front of the main entrance (Door 1) at the high school

Following the ceremony, a reception will be held to honor Superintendent Hillmann’s leadership and to wish him well in his new role with the Minnesota Association of School Administrators (MASA).

who are the district’s architectural and construction management partners?

  • Wold Architects and Engineers. Sal Bagley, lead architect.
  • Knutson Construction. Josh Cooper, lead construction manager.
  • Wold and Knutson were the district’s partners for the 2018 bond projects that included the new Greenvale Park Elementary School and additions/renovations at Bridgewater, the district offices (formerly Longfellow), Northfield Community Education Center (the former Greenvale Park building), and Spring Creek.
  • The 2018 projects were completed for $2 million less than projected and finished on time despite 60% of the project schedule occurring during the COVID-19 pandemic.
